What made you decide to create Record Label?

I was working closely with Radical Mixtape Recordings and was offered the chance to start my own label, at the time we were an offshoot of Radical Mixtape but over time we went our separate ways. Our aim in Relative Dimensions was to help up and coming artists and producers and hopefully bring something fresh to people's ears, much like the infamous Scour that Spinforth used to run on the Ghetto Funk blog. I was always open to the idea of working with other labels and letting artists have complete freedom in whatever they wanted to make. Over time we became more of a community than a label and we are always open to collaborations and remixes and trying new ideas.

How did you come up with the name?

Well as I'm Doctor Hooka and always called my laptop the TARDIS it was always the plan to try and create something that could work well with that. Sci fi geeks will obviously know straight away but the TARDIS is an acronym for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space, so we came from Gallifrey I suppose

In your years in the music business, what is the best thing about being involved with it and the worst?

The best thing has always been the music, the entire reason I do anything is for the love of music. The label opens doors and gains contacts and networking options but it's always been about the music above anything else! What don't I like? Politics, this whole business is full of it and it can be a massive obstacle. I have always firmly believed that our scene isn't huge and we should all work with each other, sadly that's a rare thing.

What’s your most memorable experience inside the label?

We were nominated for a Breakspoll award as best new label, we didn't win but the nomination was enough praise and something we never expected nor will we ever forget.

Tell us a little about your role as the record label. What does your day-to-day look like?

We built up an amazing little team so a big chunk of the day to day work goes to Dan of Mr. Rich & The Caretaker and Vinyl Messi. We have a fair few things in the pipeline but our day to day tends to be a lot of planning fresh ideas and remixes and chasing up demos and unfinished tracks. We have a staffroom but that's basically a room full of banter when we're not working haha.

When looking into potential new artists to sign, what are some of the qualities that you find exciting?

Originality and new ideas are always a bonus. Musicians that become producers always have a fresh take on things, for example Leygo is also a drummer and the way he looks at beats is very refreshing. We have some MCs that are currently buried in writing and rehearsals so we will have a tight group of in house talent.
Do you have any advice to offer up to incoming artists/djs/bands?
Never give up, chase your dreams and work your hardest to achieve them. Nothing is impossible and dreams can be reality. Never fake the funk
