INTERVIEW:

Hello and welcome to Young NRG Productions and BBFunk Blog.
Today I have been joined by amazing DJ and producer Pecoe.

Hi! Nice to have you here!

What are some words you would use to describe this year (2019)?

• It's been an amazing year for me musical wise, so many music projects on the go at the moment a lot to be heard in 2020.

Jessica Moore - Around My Space (Pecoe Remix). Can you tell us what you like best about your track?

• Basically it's the first Drum and Bass track i have produced and it turned out pretty damn well. I'm digging the rolling bass line in it and the vocal part also works very well with the bass line, the kick and snare are punchy plus the various other elements throughout.

Can you tell us about the new project you will be working on in 2020?

• Upcoming and ongoing projects for 2020 include a new Pecoe EP on Breakbeat Paradise Records included in this EP are remixes from like minded artists plus a collab track i worked on with a very well known artist. So far the tracks are sounding rad. Another EP is also in the pipeline for another label which could be out by the end of the year or early next year? A free track also is out next year for the Cuttin It Fine label too.

Imagine walking inside the studio; please, can you speak to me through a typical day? What are your habits?

• Every weekend is spent making tunes be it an edit, remix or a project that i need to complete. So i wake up Saturday morning browse Soundcloud for DJ mixes for my site Breakzlinkz then update my site. I go grab a coffee (much needed in the morning) and then i'll start making tunes. Sunday is the same too but i usually have a break and watch a bit of YouTube during the day.

How will you choose the software and add-ons you use?

• My basic setup is Ableton Live as my DAW and an old copy of Sony Sound Forge. I do have Native Instruments Komplete too. It's funny but i don't really use any third party plugins apart from Camel Phat, Ozone and Massive. I only really use the in built Ableton effects.

Are you an avid believer of learning an instrument? What is the only piece of DJ / production equipment that you can not live with?

• I can't play a musical instrument to save my life apart from turntables and CDJ's. I did start off making music with a midi keyboard but found out i can make just as good music cutting up various samples that i have heaps of. All my music is sample based.

So what are your thoughts on technology aiding the technique of DJing?

• The technology around at the moment is amazing and confusing at the same time is does make it easier to DJ but i think all DJ's should learn the basics by starting out with a pair of turntables.

Any artists / DJs / producers in particular that really influenced you?

• There are so many to name. My background is centered around high tempo Nu Skool Breaks but artists at the moment that i dig are Featurecast (who has been a bit quite of late), Stickybuds, Lack Jemmon, AGFA, Fort Knox Five and The Funk Hunters to name a few.

What is the music scene like at this moment in your country?

• At the moment it's a bit stagnant. There was a massive following for everything Breaks specially with the world renowned Breakfest Festival but as years pass the acts that play the Breakfest Festival are not really Breaks acts which is a shame.

Often, certain cities are related to certain sounds and sub-genres. Do you think that living in your city is reflected in your music?

• I guess this relates to Breakfest but i was very much into Breaks in it's heyday. Of course there are all sorts of music being played over here in Perth heaps of people still dig the Drum & Bass scene and of course there will always be House music no matter where you go.
